A Shopper's Guide to London Mayfair | Everything You Need to Know

Are you in need of a little retail therapy?

When you’ve had a busy week, sometimes all you need is to escape to the city for a weekend of excellent shopping (and cocktails back at the hotel after, of course!).

So, we’re sharing our ultimate guide to shopping in Mayfair, to help you start planning your trip early…

Why Choose to Go Shopping in Mayfair?

Nestled in the heart of London's vibrant landscape, Mayfair finds itself amidst the bustling energy of the City of Westminster.

Defined by its proximity to some of London's most iconic streets — Park lane, Piccadilly, Regent Street, and Oxford Street — it’s one of the most prestigious shopping destinations in the UK.

From the high-end boutiques of Burlington Arcade to the charming allure of Shepherd Market, you’ll be in haute-couture-heaven from the moment you step into the district.

Just some of our favourite shops include:

Fortnum and Mason

With everything you could possibly need, from delicious snacks to diamond-studded jewellery, a visit to Fortnum & Mason is a delightful treat for those visiting London.

Splurge on a little something — be it chocolates or a new scarf — and carry it away in the iconic turquoise bag that’ll be sure to bring a smile to your face every time you re-use it.

The Burlington Arcade

Inside the Burlington Arcade, you’ll find exquisite stores just waiting for you to be spoiled and pampered…

From Michael Rose to Manolo Blahnik, it’s brimming with beautiful boutique stores, filled with treasures of every desire.

Pearls for your ears, diamonds for your feet, cashmere for your back — the jewellery, clothes, accessories, and shoes are breathtaking, and will certainly hit the spot when it comes to retail therapy.

Paxton and Whitfield

Cheese might not be top of your list when shopping in Mayfair, but it should be!

Paxton and Whitfield offers a mesmerising display of all kinds of cheese; perfect for taking home and using for meals, cheese boards, picnics, and even fondues.

And, if cheese is your kryptonite, you could even consider joining the Paxton’s cheese club.

Designer Brands

Fall in love with your wardrobe all over again, by treating yourself to staple items from the most famous brand flagships, such as:

  • Gucci;
  • Louis Vuitton;
  • Chanel;
  • Hermes;
  • Dior;
  • And more.

Sophisticated and stylish, these are more than just shops; they’re experiences — and ones you’ll likely never forget, as you make your way through Mayfair’s most luxurious names.

Luxury Homeware

From cushions and candles to wine glasses and vases, Mayfair is bursting with exquisite homeware stores.

So, why not commemorate your weekend away in London by choosing some items to give your home a little lift?

Thomas Goode is a luxurious household name, offering glassware, china, and silverware. And, with two royal warrants to supply the British royal household, you too can live like royalty.

For soft furnishings such as bedding and throws, Frette offers classic, timeless designs that’ll elevate the rooms in your home and wow any guests.

Arts and Antiques

If vintage is more your vibe, Mayfair has you covered there, too.

With plenty of charming antique stores housing gorgeous, dated items — such as the Mayfair Gallery — you’ll be certain to find a piece or two amongst the troves of treasure.

Or, if you’re looking for gorgeous artwork, Mayfair is home to an array of exceptional galleries, displaying elegant paintings and sculptures on every wall.

For quirky and bright, we recommend Maddox Gallery, while for classics we suggest Clarendon Fine Art.

“Wine” Down After Shopping in Mayfair

After spending a day shopping in Mayfair, we know just how tired your feet will be!

Head back to DUKES London, and we’ll look after your every need, from an exquisite wine dinner in GBR to refreshing cocktails in DUKES Bar.

A Day Trip to Windsor: What to See and Do

There’s something captivating about stepping back in time, if only for a day, to explore the charm of Windsor.

Just a short journey from DUKES London, this historic town offers an idyllic escape from the hustle and bustle of city life.

Whether you’re a history buff, a lover of the great outdoors, or simply in search of a delightful day out, a Windsor day trip has something for everyone.

Windsor Castle: A Must-See Royal Residence

As you arrive in the town, the first thing to greet you is the awe-inspiring sight of

. This fortress, with its stately towers and regal gardens, has stood sentinel over the town for nearly a thousand years.

It’s not just the oldest and largest occupied castle in the world, but it’s also still very much a working royal palace. His Majesty The King’s presence is often signalled by the fluttering of the Royal Standard from the Round Tower.

Take your time wandering through the State Apartments, including the grand St George’s Hall where state banquets are held. Be sure to also visit St George’s Chapel before you leave, a masterpiece of Gothic architecture and the final resting place of many monarchs, including Henry VIII and the late Queen Elizabeth II.

Exploring Windsor Town: Boutiques, Pubs, and the Riverside

From the castle, you can then go on to explore the town itself, a delightful mix of contemporary boutiques, cosy cafés, and traditional English pubs. It’s the perfect place to pause and soak in the quintessentially English atmosphere, perhaps over a pint of local ale or a pot of afternoon tea.

As you look around, you’ll soon find yourself drawn towards the

, which winds its way through the heart of Windsor. A walk along the riverside is a must on any Windsor day trip, its tranquil waters lined with willow trees and dotted with snowy white swans.

If you’re feeling particularly adventurous, why not hire a rowing boat or take a river cruise for a different perspective on this charming town?

The Long Walk: A Stroll Through History

For the outdoor lovers,

is a tree-lined avenue stretching for nearly three miles from Windsor Castle to the Copper Horse statue at the top of Snow Hill. The walk is particularly stunning in the autumn, when the leaves turn golden and crunch beneath your feet.

At the end, you’ll be rewarded with panoramic views over

, a vast expanse of green that was once the hunting ground of English monarchs. It’s the perfect place to relax after a long day on your feet!

How to Get to Windsor from DUKES London

Getting to Windsor from

is as straightforward as it is scenic, with several transport options available:

  • By Train: The most convenient way is to catch a train from London Waterloo to Windsor & Eton Riverside. The journey takes around an hour and trains run frequently throughout the day, with Windsor & Eton Riverside station just a short walk from Windsor Castle.
    Alternatively, you can take a train from London Paddington to Windsor & Eton Central, with a change at Slough. This route is slightly quicker, taking around 40 minutes in total.
  • By Car: If you prefer to drive, Windsor is approximately 25 miles from central London. The journey takes about 45 minutes to an hour, depending on traffic. The most direct route is via the M4 motorway, exiting at junction 6 for Windsor. There are several car parks in Windsor, but it’s wise to arrive early, especially during peak tourist season.
  • By Private Car Service: For the ultimate in comfort and convenience, consider booking a private car service through DUKES London. Our concierge would be happy to arrange for a chauffeur-driven car to take you directly to Windsor.

No matter how you choose to travel, the journey from DUKES London to Windsor is very much part of the experience, taking you through some of the most picturesque countryside in the South of England.

After a busy day of exploring, you can return to our hotel and end your evening with a nightcap in our legendary

. Martini, anyone?

If this sounds like your perfect day, it’s time to

with us. Why not make a full weekend out of your visit and spend some time in the too?

St James's Park | Autumn Walks London

Begin your autumnal adventures with a leisurely stroll through

, one of the most beautiful and historic parks in London.

Just a stone's throw from

, this park is a sanctuary of peace amidst the bustling city. As you wander along the tree-lined paths, the vibrant reds, oranges, and yellows of the autumn leaves will frame iconic views, such as Buckingham Palace.

St James's Park is also home to various wildlife, including its famous pelicans. Why not pause and take a moment to watch them basking on their favourite rocks in the middle of the lake?

Hampstead Heath | Autumn Walks London

Getting there: 20 minutes by taxi or 30 minutes by Underground (Northern Line from Charing Cross to Hampstead)

For those seeking a more rugged experience,

is ideal. This sprawling parkland offers a wild, untamed feel that contrasts with the manicured elegance of London's central parks. During autumn, the Heath is ablaze with fiery colour.

Start your walk at Parliament Hill, where you’ll be rewarded with panoramic views of the London skyline. The golden hues of the cityscape in autumn are nothing short of breathtaking. From here, you can explore the wooded areas and ponds that make the area so unique.

Don’t miss the opportunity to visit

Begin your visit with the Treetop Walkway, where you can observe the changing foliage from 18 metres above the ground. Then, continue your exploration in the Arboretum and the iconic Temperate House, the largest Victorian glasshouse in the world.

Richmond Park | Autumn Walks London

Getting there: 30 minutes by taxi or 40 minutes by Underground (District Line from Green Park to Richmond)

, the largest of London’s Royal Parks, is perhaps best known for its resident deer population. Its 2,500 acres span ancient woodlands and grasslands, where the herd can be spotted grazing against a backdrop of autumnal colours at this time of year.

Start your journey at Pembroke Lodge, a beautiful Georgian mansion with panoramic views over the Thames Valley. From here, you can wander through the Isabella Plantation, an enchanting woodland garden especially beautiful in the autumn.

The Thames Path | Autumn Walks London

Getting there: 15 minutes by taxi or 25 minutes by Underground (Jubilee Line from Green Park to London Bridge)

If you’re feeling adventurous, you can even continue your walk all the way to the Greenwich Peninsula, home to the famous Cutty Sark and the Royal Observatory.

Autumn walks in London give you the best chance of experiencing the city and its surroundings in all its seasonal splendour. Whether you prefer a gentle stroll through a historic park or an adventurous hike through ancient woodlands, there’s something on this list for everyone.
